It’s the most wonderful time of the year - for clever ads to boost Christmas sales.

A busy street in central London during the Holiday Season with Christmas lights lining the stores along the street and creating a subtle glow at nighttime, like the "Harrods" sign at the end of the cab lined road in at the photo.

As the holiday season approaches, it’s that time of year for businesses to start crafting compelling Christmas ads to get customers through the door (or onto their website).

Although, recent data confirms that Christmas will continue to look a little different this year for two-thirds of the consumer population.

That’s why it’s really important to make Christmas ads that are festive, nostalgic and - most importantly - tuned in.

The study also went on to say:
“In terms of the communications from brands around Christmas, most consumers want them to be festive (37%), funny (21%), nostalgic (20%) and value-focused (20%). In addition, nearly half (46%) of consumers want to see Christmas advertising that reminds them of better times.”

As you start to curate your holiday promotions, it's important to be mindful of the mood surrounding the cost-of-living crisis that has impacted most people.

A few ideas on how to embed a clear understanding of the current climate include:

  • Offer a special promotion to alleviate some of the pressure of buying multiple gifts for various people.

  • Host a holiday-themed giveaway or competition

  • Run a 12-days of Christmas campaign with giveaways along the way

  • Allow free shipping or extended return dates

  • Free gift with a purchase

  • Create special holiday packages or deals (this is a great opportunity to promote gifting quality time with someone over something a bit more expensive).
